What we collect
We collect traveler profiles, booking details, support interactions, and device data to deliver and improve services.
- Traveler profile: names, emails, phone numbers, loyalty tiers, and travel preferences.
- Bookings: trip dates, itineraries, payments, and supplier confirmations.
- Support records: chats, messages, and notes tied to your account.
- Device & behavior: IP addresses, browser data, and navigation paths while using UNI.
- Location: when you grant permission and use location features, precise coordinates (latitude and longitude), estimated accuracy, and the time they were recorded. See Location sharing.
How we use it
Deliver, update, and track bookings.
Send notifications when itineraries change.
Personalize offers, upsells, and travel protections.
Provide optional live location sharing with your guide and traveling companions.
Location sharing
UNI’s mobile apps may offer optional live location sharing during a tour, similar to time-limited live location in messaging apps and trip sharing in ride apps. This feature helps your tour guide and traveling companions coordinate and stay together. It is off by default.
We collect precise location from your device only after you grant location permission in iOS or Android. Showing that location to other people is a second, separate step: live sharing stays off until you turn it on in the app. While sharing is on, the app may send periodic location updates so the map stays current—including when the app is in the background, if you granted that permission.
Who can see your location
- Not the public. We do not publish your live location, and we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
- Not every traveler on the tour. Other guests on the same tour cannot see you unless they are in your family/party group and you have allowed them.
- Family or party members. If you invite companions (for example Family Mode) and they join your booking sub-group, they can see your live location while sharing is active, unless you hide it from a specific person.
- Your tour guide. Guides appear in location sharing only if you explicitly allow them to see your location. Sharing with a guide is not automatic.
- Recipients see your current position on a map for the duration you selected. They do not receive a historical trail of everywhere you have been.
How long sharing lasts
When you start sharing, you choose how long it lasts, similar to WhatsApp live location or Uber trip sharing:
- 15 minutes
- 1 hour
- 8 hours
- 24 hours
- Until you turn it off
Sharing stops automatically when the timer ends. You can stop sharing at any time in the app, which immediately hides your live position from others. You can also revoke location permission in your device settings; the app cannot continue sharing without that permission.
What we store and how we use it
- Latest position: latitude, longitude, accuracy, and a timestamp. As you move, new points replace the previous one; we do not keep a long-term movement history for this feature.
- Sharing settings: whether sharing is on, the duration you chose, when it expires, and per-person visibility choices for your tour.
- Tour coordination: if you allow the app to use location, we may also use it to help you reach the meeting point on time (for example time-to-leave reminders). Showing that location to other people is a separate opt-in.
- Live visibility ends when sharing expires or you turn it off. You can request deletion of location data with your account as described in Your choices.
Mobile communications & SMS
If you provide a mobile number and consent, we may send text messages as part of UNI Travel AI notifications—for example account notifications, booking or tour updates, schedule changes, and limited service announcements aligned with your relationship to an operator using UNI Travel AI.
Opt-in data: We collect and store the phone numbers and consent records needed to prove and honor your preferences. We do not sell or share mobile numbers or SMS opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing, lead generation, or promotional purposes. Carriers and contracted messaging providers may process messages solely to deliver the service, as described in our SMS & messaging disclosure.
You can opt out of SMS where supported by replying STOP or following instructions in the message. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. See SMS & messaging for program details, HELP/STOP, and contact information.
Cookies & tracking
Cookies keep you signed in, remember preferences, and support fraud detection and product experimentation.
Disable or limit cookies in your browser, but know that essential cookies are needed for booking, payment, and authentication flows.
Security & retention
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited, and logs monitor suspicious activity. Payment details are tokenized through PCI-compliant vendors.
We retain data only as long as needed for service, compliance, or fraud prevention. Some records persist longer for financial or legal obligations.
